From Survival to Service: Celebrating Kristie Thompson, CPRS
Kristie Thompson never imagined she would one day wear the title Certified Peer Recovery Specialist—yet today she carries it like a badge of honor, proud of the hope she brings to neighbors traveling the same rugged road she once walked.
Three short years ago, Kristie was fighting to stay sober, escaping an abusive relationship, and hustling to keep her three children safe while facing homelessness and domestic violence—all while her health teetered on the edge after a near-fatal bout with liver failure. That crisis became her turning point: she chose recovery, rebuilt her life day by day, and discovered just how powerful lived experience can be when it’s shared.
A chance conversation about shelter resources opened her eyes to peer support. That same night she Googled “peer specialist,” realized she already met the life-experience criteria, and enrolled in her first Voices of Hope class: Professionalism Basics. In that virtual classroom, Kristie found a community that spoke her language and recognized her resilience. She kept coming back—stacking CEUs, stretching comfort zones, and mastering the art of turning struggle into strength for others.
“We all have a purpose… God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.” — Kristie Thompson
Today, Kristie channels that purpose into every recovery meeting, resource referral, and moment of honest connection. Her ability to network, follow through, and show up has already forged strong partnerships across Cecil County and beyond. Colleagues praise her calm presence in crisis and her gift for reminding participants that progress, not perfection, is the goal.
Join us in applauding Kristie!
