From Rock Bottom to Purpose: Congratulations to Rachael Astle on Becoming a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)

At Voices of Hope Maryland, we don’t just celebrate certifications—we celebrate the story behind them. The grit. The growth. The late nights. The “I’m not sure I can do this” moments that turn into “Watch me.”

Today, we’re proud as hell to celebrate Rachael Astle, who has officially achieved her CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) Certification—a milestone that represents not only professional excellence, but deep personal transformation and an unwavering commitment to helping others find their way out of the dark.

Rachael’s Journey Started with a Question

Before Rachael ever wore the title “CPRS,” she was searching for direction—trying to figure out where she belonged and what her purpose was.

Before entering this program I was struggling to find my purpose. I now have a renewed sense of hope, empowerment, & believe I have truly found my purpose. Helping others and giving back is dear to my heart.

That purpose became crystal clear after she successfully completed her MAT taper. When her counselor asked what her next steps were, Rachael didn’t hesitate.

I told her that I wanted to help those still struggling in active addiction, and show them that recovery is possible for anyone. I wanted to be the hope.

Her counselor pointed her toward Voices of Hope—and that’s where the next chapter began.

From Student to Intern to Staff

Rachael first came to us as a student through the Susquehanna Workforce Network, receiving funding support through the Workforce Center to enter the CPRS training program. From the jump, she showed up with something you can’t teach: heart. The kind that makes people feel safe. The kind that says, “You’re not alone,” without even needing words.

She went on to become an intern at Voices of Hope Maryland, where her work ethic, authenticity, and dedication stood out every step of the way. And when the opportunity came, we were honored to welcome her onto the team as staff—because when you find someone who does this work for the right reasons, you don’t let them walk away.

A Program That Builds People, Not Just Professionals

Rachael describes her experience in the CPRS certification training program as more than a class—it was a full-circle transformation.

I have had a positive experience with the program. From starting at the Workforce Center and receiving funding for the CPRS program, to interning at VoH, to being hired on, and obtaining both of my certifications for CHW & CPRS.

That’s right—Rachael didn’t stop at CPRS. She also obtained her CHW (Community Health Worker) Certification, expanding her ability to serve individuals and families across recovery and wellness.

She also shared how Voices of Hope supported her growth from day one:

The organization has helped guide me and support my growth from the very beginning. I have learned new skills that help me personally and professionally. I have also created bonds with other peers that I will cherish for a lifetime.

That’s the mission in action: building community, creating opportunity, and helping peers become leaders.

A Message That Hits Home

Rachael carries two quotes that reflect her journey—real talk, they fit her story perfectly:

Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.” – J.K. Rowling
The comeback is always stronger than the setback.” – Anonymous

And if you’ve met Rachael, you already know: she’s not just talking about recovery—she’s living it, walking it, and helping others find it.

Congratulations, Rachael

Rachael, we are proud of you—not only for earning your CPRS certification, but for the way you earned it: with humility, consistency, and a genuine passion for helping people who are still finding their footing.

Your story matters. Your voice matters. And your presence in this field is going to continue to change lives.

Welcome to this next level. You earned it. 💛
